Hawker Hurricane 5481 – Update Nov 2015

Hawker Hurricane 5481 - wings attached at Scone NSW

Since July 2015, when we last reported on Hawker Hurricane C/N 60372, C-FDNL, Mk XII / IIB Serial No 5481, a lot of work has been done, with the huge task of reassembling all the dismantled components now nearing the end after refurbishing the fuselage with new wood and fabric.

Recently the wings of the aircraft were re-attached and final assembly and systems checking are proceeding well. The Hurricane is now being prepared to go into the paint shop. The wings and the rest of the aircraft will be refinished and then the markings and other details added. The fuselage has as previously reported, already been painted.

Pay’s Air Service is fairly unique, in that they have an excellent “in house” paint division and perform a very high level of work on a wide variety of aircraft both Warbirds and general aviation. The Hurricane will be totally refinished in a new color scheme with a distinctly Australian connection, but details are still being kept as a surprise when the aircraft makes its first Australian flight.

It was hoped that all of the work would be completed to allow the aircraft to attend Warbirds Downunder 2015 at Temora, NSW however sadly it will not be completed in time, but is it expected to fly before Christmas as foreshadowed in our last update.

Warbirds Online will continue to keep you posted on progress on this beautiful aircraft and its first flight. As always we are indebted to the owner, Ross Pay and the team for all their assistance in these updates.

    G’day from Cessnock, John.
    Any updates on the Hurricane?
Can we as public (local aeromodellers) get a glimpse of where a flight may take place, maybe at a show or flypast somewhere in NSW?
    cheers, Bill Denmark.

      Hi Bill

We have been keeping in touch with them on the progress of the Hurricane and there have been some minor delays-no major concerns. They will certainly let us know when it is due to fly. There has not been any dates set for any airshows as yet but keep an eye on our Facebook page for any news on this.

      kind regards
      John
