Ian Baker continues to progress his rebuild of CAC CA-12 Boomerangs A46-89 and A46-90. Warbirds Online recently visited Ian in Sydney NSW and was able to see the great Warbirds and his spares holdings for them.  We previously reported News on these projects in 2013 and Ian certainly hasn’t been sitting on his hands since then.

Last year the aircraft were packed into shipping containers pending a move to a different workspace and we were able to view them in this state. However since our visit, work has progressed very well on the Boomerangs and has reached a stage where A46-90 has now had its centre section fitted and is standing on her undercarriage for the first time in many a long year. The engine for this aircraft is also complete and will be fitted shortly.

Ian has spent many years researching the CAC Boomerang and has a good holding of spares. Being in the Aerospace industry he is also able to find rare items for his restorations and apply modern techniques to advance their restoration. A recent example is the acquisition of 3 compatible Hamilton Standard propellers for his aircraft which are currently undergoing rebuild.

The aircraft wings are also being manufactured to fit on the aircraft and although this is painstaking work, progress has been excellent.

The second Boomerang, A46-89, is also progressing well, but will take a while longer to fly.

Ian is also very busy with his company and working on a number of other projects such as the restoration of a Beech 18 VH-ATX, which has now flown in Perth WA and will soon return to NSW.

Warbirds Online will continue to follow Ian’s progress on these fantastic restorations and his other Warbird interests and we appreciate him taking the time to show us his CAC Boomerang collection.
