Spitfire air display – Yeovilton 2014

Spitfire display at Yeovilton airshow 2014

The Yeovilton air show 2014 was well supported by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with the attendance of Spitfires MK356 (Mk LFIXe) and PS915 (Mk PRXIX) and the units Dakota ZA947 which is now painted to represent Dakota FZ692 of No 233 Squadron, around the D-Day period in 1944 . The two Spitfires put on a dramatic and colorful display in excellent weather conditions as did the Dakota.

The Spitfires were able to complete both paired and single displays and the crowd was very excited as they went through their paces. Upon landing each aircraft received applause from the crowd line and they were very popular as they sat on the flight line with photographers.

All in all, one of the best BoBMF displays I have seen.

Spitfire MK356 is now painted to represent Spitfire Mk IXc ML214, coded ‘5J-K’, the personal aircraft of Squadron Leader ‘Johnny’ Plagis, the Commanding Officer of No 126 Squadron from July 1944.

PS915 currently wears the colour scheme and markings of PS888, a PRXIX of 81 Squadron based at Seletar in Singapore during the Malaya Campaign. This aircraft conducted the last ever operational sortie by an RAF Spitfire on 1 April 1954.
