Warbirds Online visited the Great Eastern Fly-In air display held on the 10th and 11th of January 2015 at Evans Head, NSW. It was an excellent event as always and very well run.
The stars of the show were naturally enough the Warbirds with a good selection of aircraft turning up including Paul Bennet’s TBM3 Avenger, the Caboolture CAC Mustang “Snifter”, the CAC Winjeel, the Archerfield T28 D Trojan and the Toowoomba based T28 A Trojan, the Harvard’s and a gaggle of Yak-52’s. The resident Grumman Mallard also put on a fine display as well.
One of the best features of the Evans Head Memorial Aerodrome display is the relatively close proximity of the flight line to the crowd. This makes for excellent viewing of the action and to gain some great photos of the aircraft. The weather this year was a little dull at some stages and sometimes interfered with the photography, but there were periods of clear sky.
We were particularly impressed with the Mustang and TBM performances, as well as the T28D Trojan’s and other Warbird’s, which thrilled the crowds with fine handling displays. We extend our thanks to the organizers of the Great Eastern Fly In air display for helping us gain great access to the Warbird flight line.
We highly recommend the Great Eastern Fly-In to Warbird enthusiasts wanting to attend a good “down to earth” aviation display – well done Evans Head!
