Today we report on CockpitRockers based in Olching, Germany, a small team of Warbird enthusiasts which specializes in creating premium Warbird instrument panels for WWII fighters. In particular the group concentrates on Messerschmitt Bf 109, Supermarine Spitfire and North American P51 panels but also works on other types. The manufacturer commenced working on panels in 1982 and has since acquired an excellent reputation for the high quality of their workmanship. Warbirds Online was recently contacted by this manufacturer in Germany who specialise in excellent quality reproduction instrument panels of the highest authenticity.
Everybody likes aircraft instrument panels. Most of us can’t afford or don’t have the resources to own a Warbird but an instrument panel gives us the opportunity to experience the look and feel of the ‘Office” of a pilot in a Warbird without the expense and effort of owning one.
CockpitRockers base their reproductions on a holding of genuine WWII instrument panels they have acquired and restored and are then able to reproduce exact replicas utilizing a mix of restored original instruments, other fittings and switches as well as reproduction panels.
Beginning in 1982 with the modest collection of various aircraft parts from around the world, as aircraft enthusiasts and collectors, CockpitRockers know from experience how difficult, time consuming and especially partially extremely expensive the collection of old aircraft parts, in particular of instruments and cockpits is. After years of collecting and searching, the idea emerged to produce instruments, cockpit displays, switches, etc. based on present original parts, thus to offer also other lovers of old aircraft from WWII the possibility to purchase the cockpit panel of an old warbird at affordable prices and thus to bring a part of history aircraft history in their own four walls. CockpitRockers have sold their reproductions all over the World and has adopted the motto –“if not the whole aircraft then the best instrument panel”.
Warbirds Online does not promote or endorse commercial vendors but we do promote the contribution to the restoration and preservation of Warbirds. You can contact CockpitRockers via their website www.cockpitrockers.de or email them at ww.hoffmann@cockpitrockers.de
