Hawker Hurricane C/N 60372, C-FDNL, Mk XII / IIB Serial No 5481 has arrived at Scone NSW after a lengthy boat trip from Canada via the Panama Canal and New Zealand. The aircraft was unpacked from its shipping container on the 7th of April 2014. It had been very carefully packed and shipped on a purpose built steel cradle with the fuselage and wings wrapped in padding and plastic membrane. The propeller and tail surfaces were individually boxed.
The Hurricane is currently painted to represent P2970 as flown by pilot Officer Geoffrey Page circa 1940, however there is no decision yet as to what color scheme the aircraft will be wearing in Australia or even if it will change at all.
Following assembly, necessary maintenance and refurbishment the aircraft will be test flown and placed upon the Australian register. It is the owner’s intention to have the Hurricane looking its best before it flies in Australia so it may be some time before the Hurricane takes to our skies. The owner of the Hurricane has placed the aircraft into the care of Pay’s Air Service and Ross Pay and the team at Scone are very excited to have the Hurricane finally in Australia.
We will continue to monitor the progress of the Hawker Hurricane 5481 and will be there to cover her first flight. So stay tuned for more news about this exciting aircraft on the local Warbird scene.

Hi its nice to see a Hurricane arrive in Aus, I live in Sydney and would love to get up close to any WW2 aircraft as I am a modeller and would like to get some detailed photos, can I visit the museum and if so how close can I get to the aircraft?
Keep up the fantastic and most valuable work to keep these historic aircraft “alive” forever.
Regards
Michael

Congratulations to the new owners of 5481 in Australia. I have many fond memories of rebuilding this Hurricane in the mid 80’s in Saskatchewan.
Thanks Terry
That’s great news. If its OK we will forward your details on to Ross Pay and the new owner who may get in touch with you.
kind regards
John
Hi John,
Re Squadron paint & markings for this Hurricane, any support for representing F/Lt Pat C Hughes ?
Hi Phill
We are advised that considerable care and attention has been observed in the selection of the scheme to be applied for this aircraft. The only information available in regard to the colour scheme is that it has a strong Australian connection. We will all await the final revelation of the finish with great interest.
kind regards
John
Hi John , off course Pat Hughes flew in spits (my error), PO Leslie Clisby would be a worthy suggestion. Thanks for responding.
Hi Phill
Thanks again for your feedback.
kind regards
John
